A WMS (Warehouse Management System) is an IT system dedicated to the "physical" management of the warehouse.
Its main objective is to control the movement and depositing of materials in the warehouse and process transitions, including delivery, reception, reordering and collecting. In general, modern WMSs can provide essential support to users for optimising the use of resources within warehouses (e.g. by calculating shortest routes for operators, classifying goods according to rotation (Activity-Based Costing) or defining different procurement strategies).
WMSs use AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Capture) systems, such as barcodes, mobile terminals with barcode reading modules, WLANs and in certain cases RFID identifiers to effectively monitor the flow of products and their position.
WMSs have applications in both manual warehouses (e.g. managed with forklifts) and automated warehouses (e.g. with stacker cranes) plus combinations of both. In warehouses with automatic systems (e.g. logistics conveyors, automated warehouses), a system for operational control of the flow of material (WCS - Warehouse Control System) must be implemented. Many WMSs offer such a module, meaning that there are two modi operandi: either the WMS connects to the WCS of the logistics system or the WMS itself manages the system.
The design and creation of our WMS solutions allows our clients to reduce costs linked to labour and the use of systems and increases the accuracy of orders.
Some of our WMS creation success stories:
WMS for the Food Industry (Beverage)
Together with our partner who manufactures automatic warehouses all over the world, we have implemented a complete WMS for a corporate working in the beverage sector. The WMS interfaces with company information systems and makes the warehouse completely automated and independent of human presence.
